KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Lee’s Summit Mayor Bill Baird said Thursday night he has tested positive for COVID-19.
In a video posted on the city’s Twitter account, Baird said he initially felt his symptoms were of allergies, but decided to get a test for COVID-19.

The next day, Baird said the test came back positive.
“I don’t know where I got COVID,” he said.
Baird said he should have paid more attention to shortness of breath in the lead up to the test and also said he lost his sense of smell and taste, which are both common symptoms of the virus.
Baird encouraged others to wear a mask and said people celebrating the Fourth of July holiday should “keep it outside.”
“Keep mom and dad six feet away,” Baird said.
Baird said testing positive “could happen to anyone” and that he has no idea where he contracted the virus.
