Police shot a man who had a weapon outside an apartment in the 700 block of NE Tudor Road late Friday night.
Officers were called to the complex about 11:30 p.m. to check the welfare of a man who was suicidal.
Officers set up a perimeter, evacuated area residents and attempted to make phone contact with the man who said he had a weapon.
As officers were attempting to contact the man he fired a round through the apartment and came outside.
As he emerged with a weapon in his hands, officers say he was ordered to drop it, but he refused, and officers hit him with less lethal impact rounds. The man was struck several times but continued to advance toward officers with his weapon.
That's when police say the man was shot by officers.
The officers then rendered first aid and the man was transported to an area hospital in serious, but stable condition.
The officers have been placed on administrative leave and an investigation is underway.
