LENEXA, Kan. — The cold temperatures and desire to stay out of the crowds kept many fans at home during the Chiefs Kingdom Champions Parade on Wednesday.
Foundry Church in Lenexa opened its doors for several dozen people who gathered to watch the parade on 41 Action News.
Chelsea Hatfield said her children wanted to be downtown, but she opted for the church instead.
“With the weather so cold, and we heard it’s even going to be a bigger turnout than the royals and so we were worried about parking and bathrooms,” Hatfield said.
Another watch-party attendee, 11-year-old Owen Mageil, had similar thoughts.
“I’m glad I’m not there because it would be really cold,” he said, “and I like watching it with friends and family and having food and somewhere to go to the bathroom.”
In Overland Park, Donna McCool sat inside her house with her son, Connor, to watch the historic moment on TV.
"I would love to be a part of that crowd. My son would really love to be a part of that crowd," McCool said. "I’ve been fighting a cold for a couple of weeks, so it’s just awesome that we have this opportunity to watch it on TV."
Many fans told 41 Action News they enjoyed all the sights and sounds of the parade from the comfort of their home or place of worship.
