Lenexa police take car theft suspect into custody

UPDATE, 8:41 p.m., Sept. 29 | Lenexa police took the suspect into custody Tuesday afternoon.

ORIGINAL STORY | Residents in the area of West 87th Street and Pflumm Road are being asked to stay inside Monday morning, as Lenexa police search for a man they say fired shots at them and stole a vehicle.

It started as a traffic stop south of West 87th Street and Pflumm Road on Haskins Place around 1:50 a.m. Police said they were stopping a vehicle they knew was stolen.

When officers approached the vehicles, the man was already outside of the vehicle and he took off.

According to police, they heard a single gunshot as the suspect rounded a corner. No one was hurt and officers did not return fire.

No one was hurt in the car theft.

The suspect is described as five feet, 10 inches tall and stocky with shoulder-length dreadlocks. he was last seen wearing black pants and a black sweatshirt.
