Lenexa police are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying a woman who attempted to cash a forged and stolen check.

On Friday, August 19 a Lenexa resident placed outgoing mail in their mailbox. Someone stole a portion of the mail from the mailbox prior to its collection by the U.S. Postal Service. A check made payable to a merchant was included in the stolen mail.

Later in the afternoon of August 19th, an unidentified female attempted to cash the check at an Olathe bank. The check had been altered to reflect a different account holder’s name. The transaction was denied because bank personnel were suspicious of the authenticity of the check. The woman who was attempting to pass the check left the bank.

Anyone who may recognize the woman or who may have information pertaining to this investigation is asked to contact Detective Beyer at abeyer@lenexa.com or call the Crime Stoppers TIPS Hotline at (816) 474-TIPS.
