KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Southwest Power Pool, the organization that coordinates the electric grid in Kansas and Missouri among other states, gave an update on energy emergency alerts.

SPP asked Evergy, Independence Power and Light and other area electric companies to institute controlled rolling outages over the last two days in order to avoid larger, uncontrolled outages amid this extreme cold spell.
Customers also have been asked to conserve energy to reduce the demand on the power grid.
