Many people in Kansas City are continuing their holiday deal shopping with Small Business Saturday.

The Saturday after Thanksgiving is Small Business Saturday. It is intended to encourage and support small businesses throughout the nation.

American Express started the marketing campaign in 2010. By 2015, the one-day event attracted 95 million shoppers who spent more than $16 billion dollars according to  the National Federation of Independence Business.

Renee Koehn owns Vintage in KC. A creative arts shop in Shawnee, Kansas.

"It is so important to support the small businesses in the community because we are an intricate part of the community," said Koehn.

Casey and Sloane Simmons could not agree more with Koehn. They own a store named Stuff in Brookside.

"We are an artistic lifestyle store. So we sell handmade goods by artists and creators," said Casey Simmons.

The Simmons sisters recently celebrated their 20 year milestone at Stuff.  They credit Small Business Saturday for their continued growth and success.
