KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Dust off our resume, the Missouri Department of Transportation is hosting a job fair Thursday. The agency will offer on the spot interviews and will schedule a second interview for qualified candidates.

MoDOT hopes to hire at least 40 maintenance workers to begin June 1.

The human resources manager for MoDOT's Kansas City district said maintenance workers do a wide variety of jobs to keep the roads in shape for drivers. From plowing snow, to mowing grass, and from striping lanes to patching potholes. The manager said the employees work in all weather conditions, but stressed safety is the top priority for employees.

"They are very important to the traveling public and also they are half of our workforce," Deborah Hogan explained. "We have over 600 employees here in the Kansas City district, over 300 of them are maintenance workers who take care of the roads."

The maintenance workers start earning $14.59 per hour. MoDOT provides health, dental, eye insurance, a pension, sick and vacation leave. Plus, new hires receive a pair of boots.

To qualify, you must be at least 18 years old, have a high school diploma, or GED, pass drug and background tests, and pass the written portion of the commercial driver's license exam.
