When you’re heading down Main Street in Midtown, be on the lookout for some new artwork.

On the side of Main Thriftway, painter Trent Alexander was seen on Monday afternoon putting the finishing touches on a new mural.

Alexander was contacted by the Main Street Corridor Development Corporation (MainCor) to paint the image “Luv Midtown KC” inside a red heart inside a black circle.

The idea behind the mural comes from a bumper sticker available in Midtown businesses with the same design created by Laurie Chipman with Chipman Design & Marketing.

“It gets your attention,” said Tony Hassanzadeh, owner of Thriftway. “Having it doesn’t hurt. If it brings more business, that's a plus.”

Macy Layne with MainCor said the goal was for the mural to be complete before St. Patrick's Day.

"The parade brings so many people into Midtown. We wanted to bring a presence of Midtown to Main Street," she said.

This is the first mural in the area.

"If you go to bigger cities like Nashville, there are murals all over the place that people are literally standing in line to take their pictures in front of," said Layne. "So we were like, ‘You know what, why don’t we go ahead and start trying to do that.'"

Layne said it is a way to showcase how great Midtown is. If you stop by to take a photo, use #LuvMidtownKC when posting the image on social media.
