KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A local organization hopes to end domestic violence by empowering mothers to help daughters.
Mothers On Mentoring, M.O.M., will host a Mother/Daughter Expo on Saturday for mothers and girls between 6 to 18 years of age.
The Expo is designed to rebuild and strengthen mother-daughter relationships, as well as educate young women on domestic violence, STDs, abortion, and homicide rates.
Kamilah Johnson is a mother of three boys, but she's also the founder of M.O.M. and will host Saturday's Mother/Daughter Expo.
"It's very important that women know the signs of domestic violence as well as love themselves so that we can prevent it completely. Our program is basically deemed to build the self-esteem of women," said Johnson.
The Expo is from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. on Saturday at the Bruce R. Watkins Cultural Center at 3700 Blue Parkway in Kansas City. It will include guest speakers, music, and valuable information for attendees.
