KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A woman is recovering after being shot in the leg by a man she’d been out with Wednesday night.

Belal S. Rhaimeh, 26, faces two counts of unlawful use of a weapon and two counts of armed criminal action.

According to court records, the victim told police that she and the defendant left a restaurant together and went to meet friends in Westport. While on the way, the suspect allegedly began firing shots out the window.

After they went to Westport, the suspect was taking the victim back to her car, when he allegedly grew angry. She was able to get out of the car and got help from a couple nearby. They let her sit in their car. When the victim believed the suspect had left, she went to her car and got in. However, the suspect blocked her in. She told police she heard "pop, pop" and then discovered she was shot in the leg.

She was taken to the hospital.

The gunman left the scene and went to his home in Lee’s Summit, where local police arrested him and took him to the KCPD jail. Prosecutors have requested a $50,000 bond.

KPCD said it’s unclear why the suspect began shooting in the first place.

The woman was shot right outside The Granfalloon.
