Man charged for allegedly shooting, killing man during argument about woman

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A man has been charged in connection to the deadly shooting of 30-year-old Michael Hooker.

Rodreko V. Jennings, 38, faces second-degree murder and armed criminal action charges stemming from the June 23 shooting.

It happened in the 2800 block of Kensington Avenue, where police responded to a reported shooting and found Hooker dead from gunshot wounds.

A witness told police Jennings went to the home and began yelling at Hooker about a woman. The witness said Hooker was trying to show Jennings his phone when Jennings began firing shots.

Another witness said she heard the shooting over the phone while she was talking to Hooker. When she went to the residence, she found him dead on the floor, behind a couch.

Jennings had fled the scene.

Prosecutors have requested a $250,000 bond.
