Man charged after shooting girlfriend's father

UPDATE: Nov. 24, 9 a.m. The Jackson County Prosecutors office has charged Terrance D. Wright, 24, with murder in the second degree and armed criminal action.

Detectives said Wright went to the residence after a child custody dispute with his girlfriend, and the daughter of the victim, Lewis Benson, to pick up his son.

Benson reportedly went outside the home to Wright's car to talk and was shot twice with a .40 Caliber handgun.

Wright is being held o $250,000.00 bond.

A man shot early this morning on East 117th Street was pronounced dead at an area hospital.

Police were called to 7918 E. 117th street just after 8:30 a.m. Saturday on a shooting call.

Upon arrival no victim was found, but police did find a party matching the description of the suspect walking away from the scene who was taken into custody.

A short time later police checked area hospitals, but initially no victim was located.

Police now say a victim, Lewis Benson, 49 was transported by private vehicle with a gunshot wound. He was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

Detectives are interviewing multiple witnesses. The person detained is being questioned for possible involvement.
