KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Overland Park Fire Department responded to the scene of a boating accident Friday evening, which left one man dead.

The accident happened around 6 p.m. on the Blue River near West 151st Street and Kenneth Road.

Overland Park and Leawood fire crews responded to the scene after receiving a report that a man was missing after falling from his kayak, according to a statement from OPFD.

Another man at the scene said he was kayaking with the missing boater when "they encountered an obstruction at a bridge construction site."

After going overboard, the missing boater never resurfaced. His body was discovered using a water rescue boat downstream in Kansas City, Missouri.

"Because of where the man’s body was found, Kansas City, Missouri, police have been called in to handle the death investigation," OPFD said in a statement.
