Man found unresponsive at JoCo jail, later dies

An inmate at the Johnson County Detention Center has died after he was found unresponsive in his cell Saturday. 

According to a release from the Johnson County, Kansas Sheriff's Office, Bryan Paul Smith, 30, was found unresponsive in his cell at about 10:56 a.m. Saturday.

Resuscitation efforts were initially successful, according to the release. Officials say Smith was transported to a nearby hospital with a pulse on Saturday but passed away early Sunday morning. 

He was held on charges of aggravated indecent liberties with a child. He had been in the jail since May 2 on a $100,000 bond.

The Johnson County Sheriff's Office and the Kansas Bureau of Investigations are investigation Smith's death.
