KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A man is in custody after a nearly 10-hour standoff with Kansas City, Missouri, police.

The standoff started around 6 p.m. Tuesday and lasted until 3:45 a.m. Wednesday at the Executive Inn and Suites just off 40 Highway.

People had to evacuate their rooms and part of 40 Highway was shut down.

Managers called police stating someone had trespassed in one of the rooms.

While officers investigated, they saw a man was staying there who had a felony warrant.

That man barricaded himself in one of the rooms, refusing to come out.

Police were told he may have been armed, and that’s when a standoff was initiated.

Motel manager Jigenesg Bhakta said the man has caused trouble in the past.

“He’s been here before we even got here. We took over last year in trying to change the place, so with him it’s just an ongoing process,” Bhakta said. “We’ve had to go to him several times about the same thing but he didn’t take it that far. Now we just decided we weren’t going to tolerate anything else. We were just tired.”

Early Wednesday morning, police were able to get inside and take the man into custody. No injuries were reported.
