KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A 16-year-old girl from Maryville, Missouri, drowned Thursday afternoon.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol said she entered an area of deep water in the One Hundred and Two River about a quarter of a mile west of Barnard, Missouri, just before 2:30 p.m.
The girl was unable to swim and drowned, MSHP said.
Her body was recovered by an Iowa dive team just before 4:30 p.m.
She was not wearing a life jacket, according to the MSHP report.
