KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Christmas spirit is coming to Crown Center.
On Thursday, the Mayor’s Christmas Tree arrived. The tree is from Oregon and it’s 100 feet tall.
Mayor Sly James said the tree is to get everyone in the Christmas spirit, but they are also raising money for those in need.
“We need people to help us. We will be looking for donations to the Mayor’s Christmas Tree fund. The money will go to people who need it. We will be giving gift cards and helping people with bills and all sorts of things that help people,” said James.
James said the people of Kansas City have big hearts every year and hopes people will give even more.
“We distribute those fund and they absolutely appreciate it. There is nothing better than seeing someone solve a need or get a present for a child that they wouldn't be able go get,” he said. “It allows them to participate in a holiday that otherwise they wouldn't be able to.”
The ornaments on the tree will be skates to celebrate the 45th anniversary of the skating rink at Crown Center.
