Track chairs increase outdoor accessibility in Kansas City area

Outdoor activities in Missouri are now easier for those with mobility challenges. 

The Missouri Department of Conservation received a donation ofthree new track chairs.

Track chairs are battery powered chairs with rubber tracks designed to handle the outdoor environment.

A grant from Platte County along with money donated by private groups, cities and individuals made the $42,000 purchase possible.

  • Ride For the Wounded
  • Platte City
  • City of Parkville
  • Platte County Parks and Recreation Department

There are 14 track chairs in the state Missouri. The Kansas City Region has four.

MDC maintains and transports the chairs to events part of their Accessible Outdoors program.

The chairs are located at Parma Woods Range and Training Centerand are available to organized groups holding a special event such as group hikes or organized hunts.
