MIAMI COUNTY, Kan. — A Kansas woman has made it her mission to save senior dogs from being euthanized in kill shelters.
Always & Furever Midwest Animal Sanctuary in Miami County provides a home and love to any dog that needs to be saved.
Currently, 16 dogs are living at the sanctuary. It's set up to feel like a normal home. Dogs can stretch out on couches and come and go as they please through a doggy door.
The sanctuary's main focus is on senior dogs. However, if a younger dog is in danger of being euthanized, it will be saved and brought to the sanctuary.
The goal is for each dog to be adopted, but if a family doesn't come along, the dog will live out its years at the sanctuary. The owner said all of the animals get lots of love from the volunteers.
"So much of these dogs, it's just a matter of giving them a place to love and know love," said Jennifer Dulski, owner of Always & Furever. "If it's for the first time, if it's only for a short time, it doesn't matter to us how sick they are or how long they have. It only matters that they know love before they leave this world."
The sanctuary has saved more than 200 dogs so far.
It's completely volunteer-run and is always in need of more volunteers and donations. Click here to find more information on how to do so.
