KANSAS CITY, Mo. — While the number of confirmed coronavirus deaths rises, the state of Missouri continues to work with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to protect its residents.

Randall Williams, Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services director, said in a news release that DHSS has partnered with the CDC and “local public agencies” to monitor the situation.

Risk of contracting coronavirus in Missouri, according to the release, is “still considered very low at this time,” but preventive measures used to combat the flu and common colds also could help in the case of coronavirus.

On a federal level, U.S. travelers who have been to China within the past two weeks are being directed to 11 airports, where they will undergo screening. None of those airports are in Missouri. Those travelers who have been to Hubei province in China, where the novel coronavirus originated, are being quarantined for two weeks.

All travelers without symptoms will continue to their intended destination, according to the release.
