KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The owner calls her Barbara, and 41 Action News caught up with Barbara on 17th and Main in Downtown Kansas City.

When you step foot inside Barbara the box truck you can get a bob, as Bess Lamoreux oversees buzz cuts, trims, layers, and more at this high and tight mobile operation.

The idea came to Lamoreux about a year ago.

“My husband hates getting his hair cut, and he was sitting at lunch with me at Hallmark. He was complaining for the hundredth time about having to schedule his haircut, and I was like, 'Why isn’t there a little truck that pulls up outside and you could run out and get your hair cut?'” Lamoreux said.

And so, Box Truck Barber was born about a year later.

The only problem is Lamoreux doesn’t cut or style hair.

“I am the marketing, sales, the truck driver, janitor and all other parts, except the hair cutting," Lamoreux said.

She hired two stylists, including Kim Pennington, who loves the idea of having a mobile work space.

“I like that we’re in a different location every day. So, it’s not like I’m commuting to the same job every day. It’s just fun and exciting,” Lamoreux said.

Lamoreux said it’s the first of its kind in the Kansas City metro.

They’ve re-fitted a once-FedEx truck to become the mobile salon on wheels.

Haircuts and styling will be done only when the truck is parked.

Box Truck Barber will be parked outside various businesses across the area.

“It’s quick, convenient, top-notch service, right outside your door,” Lamoreux told 41 Action News. “It’s not what you’d expect for a haircut truck. I don’t think people know what to expect.”

But Lamoreux said ole Barbara, and the stylists inside, will certainly exceed expectations.
