LAWRENCE, Kan. --The woman accused of intentionally driving her car into the Kansas River with her two children inside, appeared before a judge Monday.

After waiving her preliminary hearing, Scharron Dingledine was back in a Douglas County, Kansas courtroom to enter her plea.

It was a quick encounter between Dingledine and Judge Peggy Kittel. As she stood next to her lawyer, Dingledine pleaded not guilty to the charges of first degree murder and attempted murder.

Prosecutors allege that just after 1 p.m. on Aug. 3, Dingledine drover her car into the Kansas River in a murder-suicide attempt.

Lawrence Police were called to the scene. One officer was able to rescue Dingledine, while another officer pulled her infant son from the water. He was immediately taken to the hospital where doctors were able to revive him.

After being taken to the hospital, Dingledine admitted her daughter was also in the car with them. Officers were unable to locate the 5-year old until the next morning.

Dingledine remains in the Douglas County Jail on a $1 million bond.

Experts at Bert Nash Community Health Center examined her and determined she is competent to stand trial.

Dingledine will be back in court on Dec. 17 when Judge Kittel will set her trial date.
