Everybody in the pool!
That’s the hope at PrairieLife Fitness in Olathe on a daily basis.
According to Coach Kelly, swimming is an exercise that is perfect for a lifetime.
It is easy on the bones and joints while combining resistance and cardio training.
The Master Swimmers, those over the age of 19, show up early most mornings and put in the laps.
The team aspect is one of the main motivators to keep people coming back.
There are water aerobics and other aquatic classes available, as well.
As we get closer to the Olympic Games, interest and activity will go up.
Many of the Master Swimmers compete in triathlons and Iron Man competitions.
For example, Kelly recently won the gold in her age group at a Madison, Wisconsin Iron Man and will be on her way to compete in Hawaii.
But, even for those of us not making that kind of commitment, swimming is a great option.
It is the perfect combination of individual achievement and team work that helps one stay physically fit, as well as mentally sharp.
So, make a splash and get in the pool.
Next time somebody says, “Oh, you’re all wet.” You can say, “You bet…and I’m better for it.”
