KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Drivers will race, flip and jump over obstacles in monster trucks at Arrowhead Stadium Saturday night. It’s the first Monster Jam-sanctioned event at the stadium. Arrowhead has hosted other monster truck events under different brands.
Most recently, Monster Jam took place at Sprint Center. Moving the show to an outdoor stadium venue means more drivers can participate, there are more obstacles, drivers can go higher, and do tricks such as back flips which they cannot indoors.
“I think what's exciting with monster trucks is the thrill of not knowing what's going to happen,” said Jimmy Creten, driver of Bounty Hunter and reigning World Racing Champion. “Are they going to crash, are they going to save it, what are they going to pull off, who's going to go the biggest?”
Creten, who lives in Tonganoxie, Kansas, represents one of four drivers born in the state who will be at the event Saturday. His wife, Dawn, is also a driver. She said she enjoys seeing girls in the stands.
"When I first started, it was mainly men and their sons coming to shows,” Dawn Creten said. “Now we get the little girls and the women and I really like that."
The event is at 7 p.m. Saturday. The show lasts between two and half and three hours. There is a pit party beginning at 2:30 p.m. during which pass-holders can meet truck drivers. For information on buying tickets and pit party passes, click here.
