KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The start of spring is generally a welcome change, especially after the winter Kansas City endured, but it also coincides with the start of road construction season.

After multiple delays, the Missouri Department of Transportation announced that the ramp from eastbound Interstate 70 to southbound Interstate 435 will close at 8 p.m. on Wednesday.

The ramp, which will be re-striped in anticipation of its use as a detour from westbound I-70 to southbound I-435, will reopen at 5 a.m. on Thursday.

The $47 million interchange project, which started March 10 with the closure of the ramp from eastbound I-70 to northbound I-435, won’t be completed until December 2020.

It will replace several bridges within the interchange and change the configuration to a partial turbine design.

MoDOT touts the project as a safety enhancement, eliminating left exits and providing congestion relief.
