KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A motorcyclist suffered serious injuries during a crash with a Chevrolet Equinox on Sunday afternoon along southbound Interstate 35 at the Metcalf Avenue exit.

Overland Park police and the Kansas Highway Patrol investigated the incident, which happened around 3:45 p.m.

According to a KHP crash log, a 25-year-old Kansas City, Missouri, man was driving a 2006 Suzuki motorcycle in the left lane and a 28-year-old woman from Columbia, Missouri, was driving in the second lane from left.

The Equinox cut across two lanes, attempting a left exit at Metcalf at the same time the motorcycle was cutting across the painted triangle that marks the exit lanes.

The two vehicles collided and the motorcycle rider, who was wearing a helmet, was ejected. He was transported to hospital with a "suspected serious injury," according to the KHP report.

The woman in the Equinox and a 32-year-old male passenger from Jefferson City, Missouri, were not injured.
