KANSAS CITY, Mo. — UPDATE: August 1, 1:15 p.m.: Just over an hour after the outage was reported all but one customer had power restored.
EARLIER | Nearly 5,000 Independence Power and Light customers lost power Saturday afternoon after a transformer failure.
IPL said that just after noon a mechanical failure in a transformer knocked out power to residents.
Customers in an area covering 23rd street on the north, to Interstate 70 on the south end, and near Noland Road on the east side to Blue Ridge Boulevard on the west were without power.
Crews are working to fix the problem.
No word yet on when power might be restored.
