OVERLAND PARK, Kan. -- It’s one of the new premiere restaurants in the KC metro.

Chef Jonathan Dallen is one of the cooks in charge. He’s been in the food industry for nearly 20 years.

After studying the culinary arts and working around the country, his travels brought him back home to Shawnee.

“Look at this place. We have one of the nicest establishments in the city. Not to mention it’s brand new,” Dallen said.

Mindy Bennett and her husband James decided to spend date night at Broadmoor Bistro.

“It’s definitely better than some of the restaurants that are professionals, that we’ve paid a lot more money at,” Bennett told 41 Action News laughing.

She’s laughing because Broadmoor Bistro is run by high school students in the Shawnee Mission School District.

Reis Miller, 16, is one of the students involved.

“I’m working the front line right now,” Reis said. “I would love to become a chef. That’s what I love to do.”

Restaurant goers will receive a gourmet meal for $30 a person. Dallen said it’s money well spent.

“We are rated the number one high school run restaurant in the country,” Dallen said.
