KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Northland residents will soon have a new, albeit temporary, place to take recyclables.

The recycling center at the old Metro North Mall site closed five months ago, in October 2018.

The new temporary recycling drop-off will open on Saturday, March 16 in Pleasant Valley Park, at 6401 NE Pleasant Valley Rd.

A spokesman said the city is exploring options for a permanent location.

The recycling center will be open Wednesday through Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The city’s other two recycling locations at 5200 E. Red Bridge Rd. and 4707 Deramus are open at the same times.

Accepted items include glass, paper, aluminum and plastics. A full list of accepted recyclables can be found here.

The temporary location is the result of an agreement between Kansas City’s Neighborhoods and Housing Services Department, Parks and Recreation (KC Parks) and Bridging the Gap.

Bridging the Gap operates the city’s recycling centers and provides environmental education. The organizations operates with the help of hundreds of volunteers.

The Metro North location was the city’s oldest recycling center, having opened in 1991.
