While most are enjoying the unusually warm weekends, the dry and windy conditions can cause some problems.
Last Friday, flames spread from 151st to 139th along 69 Highway in Overland Park. The Overland Park Fire Department suspects the fire started from someone's discarded cigarette butt.
“The helmet cam footage that was submitted you can see a cedar tree basically explode into flames,” said Battalion Chief Brian Redelsheimer.
In the Northland, sparks from a car fire got into the grass and spread quickly.
During these weather conditions, it’s important to contain fire as much as possible.
“Chimineas and burn pits and outdoor fire places we want to make sure that while even though we don’t have a burn ban in Johnson County, Overland Park right now that people use extreme caution when using those,” said Redelsheimer.
“It’s dry but it’s not as bad as it could be,” said Rick Miller, who is the Extension Agriculture Agent for K-State.
Miller says the current direness is affecting the wheat crop.
He says the direness can affect a home's foundation as the conditions get worse. He says now is the time to water.
“When it’s dry now if you are not out there maybe doing some subliminal watering you very well may get to spring and those plants have died because of winter kill those roots have dried out,” said Miller.
