UPDATE 12:30 p.m., Thursday | Olathe police said Kristofer Bain was found safe.

Police didn't disclose the location where Bain was found as a privacy matter, because he hasn't been charged with a crime.

According to Olathe Police spokesman Sgt. Joel Yeldell, Bain's wife first reported him missing Monday evening.

That same day, 41 Action News began promoting an investigation of claims from two Kansas City families who say Bain took tens of thousands of dollars from them for home construction projects and left their homes worse off than if he'd done nothing.

The first of two TV stories on their claims and Bain's business and financial history aired Tuesday night at 10 p.m. on 41 Action News.

A story on the 41 Action News Investigation of Bain was posted online Tuesday morning.

About that same time, Yeldell confirmed Bain had been reported missing.

"Any time somebody reports somebody missing, we take that pretty darn seriously," Yeldell said. "We assign folks to those cases to locate those individuals."

Yeldell didn't say if the 41 Action News Investigation was a factor in Bain's disappearance.

He did say patrol officers were first assigned to the case to take the report Monday night and then search for Bain.

Yeldell says the case was then turned over to a detective to find Bain.

"in the last day and a half, we've had both patrol and investigations working to locate Mr. Bain, and luckily we found him this morning," Yeldell said.

The 41 Action News Investigators have been unable to reach either Bain or any of his family for comment.

The circumstances behind his disappearance and where he was found have not been made public.

However, investigators have confirmed Bain is safe.

"Anytime a missing person is entered into a national database, to be able to be removed from the database, a police officer anywhere in the country would have to lay eyes on that person," Yeldell said. "There has to be face-to-face contact with any of these missing persons cases prior prior to that person being removed from the missing persons list."

Since the original 41 Action News Investigation first aired Tuesday night, two contractors have contacted the 41 Action News Investigators offering to help the two families to clean up the mess Bain left behind and complete their construction jobs.
