One dead after shooting at Warrensburg apartment

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — An apparent attempted break-in at a Warrensburg apartment leads to a mans death overnight.

Shortly before 11:00 p.m. officers were called to the 100 block of East Hunt Street to investigate a shooting.

While enroute to that location, police received another call of a shooting victim at Jerry's One Stop, 712 South McGuire -about four blocks east of the Hunt Street location.

As they arrived at Hunt Street the apartment resident told officers that two males tried to force their way into his apartment. At least one was armed with a gun.

The resident fired shots at the two, and was able to close his door.

The two fled.

Officers followed a blood trail from the apartment to the Jerry's One Stop.

It appears the suspect fled the apartment and collapsed at Jerry's. The 23 year-old Warrensburg resident was transported to an area hospital where he was was pronounced dead.

Police believe the dead man was one of the two that tried to force his way into the apartment.

A gun, believed left by one of the suspects was recovered at the apartment scene.

Police believe they have the second suspect in custody, but the investigation continues.
