Police are investigating a deadly shooting in the parking lot of a Price Chopper in Kansas City, Missouri, near Raytown.

Around 8:30 p.m., an off-duty officer heard gunshots near 63rd Street and Blue Ridge Cutoff.

The officer observed a male victim lying down in the parking lot. He was later identified as 39-year-old Jacob Brantner.

KCFD personnel responded and declared Brantner died from the gunshot wounds.

Authorities said Brantner was trying to sell a gun and that his 10-year-old daughter was in the car during the exchange.

"To be in front of a young child, to have his daughter there, that's really sad," said Crime Stoppers Det. Kevin Boehm.

Leads have been few so far despite the crime scene.

"Obviously the location of the homicide is kind of a well-traveled area but there was no information that we're aware of that came in initially so the detectives are working an uphill battle here," said Boehm.

Meanwhile, there's an outpouring of support for Brantner, who was well-known in the drag racing community.

"Until you've been through it, it's really hard to put it into words. These families struggle all the time," said Boehm.

If anyone has information on this incident, please call the TIPS hotline 816-474-TIPS (8477).
