KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A 17-year-old died after a two-vehicle crash on Little Blue Parkway, south of Truman Road, on Wednesday evening, according to the Independence Police Department.

Around 8:20 p.m., a driver traveling southbound on Little Blue Parkway crossed over into the northbound lanes and collided with another vehicle, according to police.

The driver and three passengers of the car that was hit were taken to an area hospital, where the driver died of her injuries.

Police said later Thursday morning that the driver was identified as a 17-year-old girl from Oak Grove, but said her name would not be released because she is a juvenile.

The other injured passengers in her vehicle remain hospitalized with serious injuries, police said.

The driver of the car that crossed into the northbound lane also was taken to the hospital with significant injuries.

The crash remains under investigation. Police said that alcohol "appears to be a contributing factor."

Police also said it did not appear that anyone involved in the crash was wearing a seat belt.
