For neighbors who live nearby, hearing the shooting led to panic on Thursday night.
"We were sitting in our chairs in the living room watching TV," explained Penney Barrett, who lives on the street behind QuikTrip. "Just suddenly, I heard the boom-boom-boom!"
Barrett told 41 Action News that following the shooting she saw two cars speed past her home.
"We just saw two vehicles racing down the street," she said. "This is a very quiet neighborhood. You don't expect something like that."
After living in her neighborhood for the last 10 years, Barrett said the shooting made her feel uneasy.
"It made me cry when I found out something like that happened right across the street," she explained. "You don't feel safe anymore. If it had been on foot, they could've ran over here and tried to hide."
Moving forward, she said she may take precautions at night as a result of Thursday's violence.
"I get gas there all the time," Barrett explained. "I don't think I'll be going there for a couple days or so."
Investigators don't believe they talked to everyone who saw the shooting.
"We know that there were witnesses who didn't stick around to give us more information. We'd like them to come forward," said John Syme, officer with Independence Police.
Police are asking anyone who witnessed the incident and who hasn't yet spoken to police to come forward and tell them what you saw. Independence police said they specifically want to speak with the witness in the white F-150 who is seen in the video driving away.
The case is under investigation. Anyone with information on the identity of the suspects or about the incident is asked to call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-8477 or Independence tips at 816-325-7777 or email leads@indepmo.org.
