Wrong-way crash kills one in Miami County

MIAMI COUNTY, Kan. — One person was killed and two others were injured Sunday morning in a wrong-way crash on U.S. 69 just north of 223rd Street in Miami County.

The Miami County Sheriff's Office said Jacob Knapp, 29, was traveling south in the northbound lanes shortly before 4 a.m. in a white 2016 Jeep Wrangler.

Knapp's vehicle crashed into a maroon 2011 Chevrolet Malibu with two passengers  the driver, Charlene Crabbe, 44, and Joshua A. Kinsey, 25, of Kansas City, Kansas.

Arriving deputies found Kinsey dead from injuries suffered in the collision.

Crabbe was transported to a local hospital with with life-threatening injuries.

Knapp, whose Jeep caught fire, was in stable condition at a local hospital, according to the sheriff's department.

 

The crash remains under investigation by the Miami County and Johnson County, Kansas, saheriff's departments.

First responders from the Louisburg fire and police department, Johnson County Fire District 2 and Miami County EMS also assisted at the scene.
