KANSAS CITY, Mo. — One person died in a single-vehicle crash Wednesday on East 37th Terrace between Jackson Drive and Arrowhead Avenue in Independence.
Independence police said a 2008 Toyota FJC was traveling east around 8:40 p.m. on 37th Terrace before Jackson Drive when it left the roadway and overturned after striking a tree.
The driver — identified later Thursday as 51-year-old Leonard Byrd of Independence — was ejected from the vehicle.
Emergency responders declared Byrd, who was not wearing a seatbelt, according to police, deceased on the scene.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
