KANSAS CITY, Mo. – More than 1,000 families living in poverty throughout Kansas City will receive a free turkey dinner for Thanksgiving Tuesday.

Della Lamb Community Services hands out turkeys, stuffing, and other traditional fixings as part of its “Operation Thanksgiving” program. The organization says the event is the largest community food distribution program for Thanksgiving in Kansas City.

Pre-qualified families will receive their meals from 8:00 a.m. to 12 noon at the Della Lamb Mabee Multi-Purpose Center. Meals are only available for families who registered in advance and meet certain eligibility requirements.

Della Lamb is an organization focused on helping lift families out of poverty by making them self-sufficient.

Executive Director Judy Akers says Della Lamb collects financial donations all year long to make the food giveaway possible. Money and food collected over the next few weeks will support “Operation Santa” which provides a Christmas meal to needy families.
