It was a busy year for news in 2015. Here are some of the most viewed digital stories from this year.
10. 17-year cicadas will soon wake from their slumber
They're nature's loudest chorus, and the 17-year cicadas came to Kansas City the summer of 2015. Wildlife experts said some areas of the metro were expected to see thousands, where other neighborhoods may not have seen any.
9. WATCH: Royals air commercial during Super Bowl
Before the Royals won the World Series this year, they were coming off their big performance in the 2014 World Series.
Usually, the Royals wait to start their new advertising campaign until the day after the Super Bowl. This year, they aired a commercial during the big football game on Feb. 1.
8. KC woman charged in deaths of firefighters Leggio and Mesh
On Oct. 27, a Kansas City woman was charged in November with starting the fire in a building that resulted in the deaths of two KC firefighters. Thu Hong Nguyen faces one count of first-degree arson and two counts of second-degree murder.
7. Actress Julia Roberts talks about the Royals’ World Series win
The 2015 World Series between the Royals and the Mets earned the highest TV ratings since the 2009 World Series. One person who watched the series was Julia Roberts.
6. Officials: KCMO firefighter commits suicide outside station
The Kansas City Police Department was called to Station 17 on Dec. 16 to investigate reports of shots fired. Officers found a firefighter dead with what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
5. James Horn, suspect in double homicide, killed by police after refusing to surrender
In early May, James Horn was accused of locking Sandra Sutton in a box inside his home. After she escaped, Horn was considered the only suspect in the homicides of Sutton and her son, Zachary Wade Sutton.
Horn was shot and killed by police after a 23-day manhunt on May 23.
4. KCFD releases names of firefighters who died in structure fire
Two Kansas City Fire Department firefighters, Larry Leggio and John Mesh, died in a fire and building collapse on Independence Avenue on Oct. 12.
3. KS statistician suing the state to obtain election records
Wichita State University statistician Beth Clarkson found something that didn't add up, and she's suing the state of Kansas to make sure every vote counts.
2. At new KC business ‘Breakout KC,’ people pay to get locked up
In May, we reported on an old building in Kansas City's River Market that was turned into an attraction we hadn’t seen before.

1. Lawsuit claims Purina Beneful dry ‘kibble’ dog food is killing dogs
In February, we reported on a lawsuit that claims Purina’s popular Beneful brand is hurting and killing pets.
More than 3,000 online complaints have been filed by dog-owners claiming Purina Petcare Beneful’s dry “kibble” variety is killing and hurting dogs, according to the class action lawsuit filed Feb. 5 in federal court.
