KANSAS CITY, Mo. — All southbound lanes of Interstate 29 just north of the I-29/I-35 split will be closed for several hours.

An overturned cement truck involved in a crash with a minivan around 3 p.m. at southbound I-29 near Davidson Road is responsible for the closure, which the Missouri Department of Transportation estimates the accident with take two or three hours to clear.

Kansas City, Missouri, police said the cement truck driver did not see stopped traffic in front of his vehicle and smashed into the rear of the minivan.

The cement truck then rolled and clipped a semi tractor-trailer as it spilled it load of concrete on the road.

The driver of the cement truck suffered head injuries and was in serious condition, according to KCPD.

The van driver also was injured. He had three dogs, including one that fled from the scene and later was found and returned to the local photographer.

The driver of the semi was uninjured and drove his rig from the scene.

KCPD and the Missouri State Highway Patrol responded to the scene.

It took 3 1/2 hours for crews to reopen the road, but traffic was flowing freely again around 6:30 p.m.
