UPDATE 7 P.M. 7/8/2017: Police say the woman hit and killed on 71 Highway Saturday morning was 44-year-old Monica R. Hughes of Kansas City, Mo.

Early Saturday morning a female was killed by a hit and run driver on 71 Highway and 51st Street.
Just after 2:00 a.m. officers were called to a fatal crash with a pedestrian. Police say the woman was hit in the traffic lane and died immediately or soon after.
The suspect vehicle fled southbound.
Officers believe the vehicle has substantial damage, possibly to the front right and windshield. No other information has been released.
It was the second pedestrian fatality in less than three hours. Anyone with any information is encouraged to call police, or Crime Stoppers at 816-474-TIPS (8477).
