The driver who hit and killed a woman on Highway 24 overnight in Independence took off from the scene, according to police.
The hit-and-run suspect remained on the run early Thursday, and police had closed off part of Highway 24 between Main and Osage to investigate the crash.
Police said the driver was heading east around 2 a.m. Thursday when they crashed into the woman and took off.
No description of the suspect or the suspect vehicle was immediately available.
Authorities did not provide the victim's identity in the initial release.
