One person was struck in the westbound lane on I-70 at Stadium Drive Saturday evening. Dispatch said the victim did not survive.
Officers were called to check on the welfare of an elderly male walking near the highway at 8:20 p.m. The call was updated to a pedestrian being struck and injured. They are currently investigating the incident.
Police later identified the victim as Robert Burris, 74, of Independence, Missouri.
According to Sgt. Mahoney, it doesn’t seem likely the man was at the Royals game and was not in the immediate area of the stadium. He seemed to be headed further out of the area. The driver of the vehicle that hit the man stopped and has been cooperating with police. The female driver was tested for alcohol and the test came back negative.
