UPDATE: JULY 4 1:45 P.M.: The Highway Patrol says Justin Valentine, 33 of Overland Park was running westbound across I-35 when he was struck by a semi, driven by Eskender Mengesha, 35 of Dallas, Texas. Valentine was pronounced dead at the scene.
UPDATE: JULY 4, 6:00 A.M.: The Kansas Highway Patrol says the male pedestrian has died in the accident.
A pedestrian was struck on I-35 just south of 95th street in Lenexa early Saturday morning.
Lenexa police and the Kansas Highway Patrol were called to the scene shortly before 5:00 a.m.
The vehicle stopped and is cooperating with authorities.
I-35 has been shut down while the investigation gets underway.
