UPDATE, 11:53 a.m. | The Kansas City, Missouri, Police Department says the preliminary investigation revealed a pedestrian was walking southbound toward Sni a Bar Road between the No. 1 and No. 2 lanes of northbound Interstate 435.
The pedestrian was struck by a black Ford Focus traveling northbound on I-435.
Police said the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene, and the driver of the Ford was uninjured.
This marks the 36th traffic fatality of the year compared to 31 at this time last year.
Investigation into the incident is ongoing.
UPDATE, 7:48 a.m. | I-435 northbound is back open to traffic.
ORIGINAL STORY | A pedestrian was struck and killed on Interstate 435 northbound near Sni a Bar Road early Wednesday morning.
Kansas City, Missouri, police officers were called to the scene about 5:20 a.m.
A secondary accident was reported nearby just a few minutes later.
I-435 northbound is shut down before Eastwood Trafficway.
