KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A police chase ended in a crash Thursday afternoon in Kansas City, Missouri.

Kansas City police said the chase started in the 200 block of Forest where a man assaulted a woman, threatened her and then drove away.

Officers located the man’s van and chased it through east Kansas City before the van crashed at 45th and Paseo.

Sgt. Bill Mahoney with the Kansas City Police department said the officers decided to pursue the vehicle because the driver was believed to be dangerous.

"You have to weigh the dangers presented to the public by the person you're pursuing versus the dangers presented by the pursuit itself. This time we had a dangerous person who we knew to be with a firearm," said Mahoney.

Police say four people were inside the car when it crashed. Three were questioned by police and released.

The driver suffered minor injuries and was transported to the hospital. He is expected to face charges.
