KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Police are investigating two separate car crash and shooting incidents that happened overnight Friday into Saturday.

About 10:30 p.m., officers were called to 48th Terrace and Blue Ridge Boulevard for a crash and sounds of gunshots.

Officers arrived and found one person in a vehicle dead from a crash.

That person was later identified as 27-year-old Aaron Smith of Raytown, Missouri.

Investigators said that the crash happened when two vehicles were traveling South on Blue Ridge Boulevard at high speeds and one ran off the road and struck a tree. The driver of that vehicle had minor injuries. Their two passengers received serious injuries.

The second vehicle ran off the road on the other side and struck another tree. That vehicle was driven by the man who died. Their passenger suffered life threatening injuries.

One of those vehicles contained a person who reportedly shot themselves suffering serious, but non life-threatening injuries. Police are treating that as a separate investigation, so there is no further information at this time.

A couple of hours later, around midnight, officers were called to East 81st Street and Wabash Avenue, also for the sound of shots fired.

Officers again found a vehicle crashed, with one person injured in that crash and one person shot.

Both were transported to an area hospital in stable condition.

If anyone has any information on either incident, they are encouraged to call police.
