KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Police are looking for the owner or driver of a white SUV wanted in a road rage incident in November along 69 Highway in Overland Park.

Overland Park police said that around 10 p.m. on Nov. 23, a driver was southbound on 69 Highway near the 103rd Street exit when a white GMC Yukon Denali SUV fired several shots at the victim’s vehicle.

No one was hurt by the gunfire.

Police said the incident started in Lenexa on Interstate 35 after one vehicle cut the other off. Gestures were made between people in the vehicles and quickly escalated.

The SUV was last seen exiting on 135th Street heading west, police said. It had a 60-day license tag with a black luggage rack and black brush-mounted grill guard on the front of the vehicle.

Overland Park police spokesman John Lacy said that drivers who find themselves in a road rage incident should try not to get involved. Don't make eye contact, don't talk to the other person, don't make any gestures, don't get out of the car and don't respond with violence, he said.

Drivers should instead take a breath and collect any information they can, such as a tag number; color, make and model of the vehicle; and the direction it was traveling. Cars that can record video are also a big help to police, Lacy said.

"Usually when somebody contacts the police department and they want us to follow up or they want us to contact the person, we will go to their house and make contact with them and try to find out what occurred," Lacy said. "Let those people know if you're in Overland Park and you're cutting people off and pulling out a firearm, we're going to follow up."

Anyone with information about the driver of the SUV in the Nov. 23 incident is asked to call the Overland Park Police Department at (913) 344-8742.
