KANSAS CITY, Mo. — President Donald Trump appointed Missouri Governor Mike Parson to the Council of Governors, the White House announced on Thursday night.
Gov. Parson is one of 10 governors, five from each party, President Trump appointed.
"I appreciate President Trump's appointment to the Council of Governors to help build and strengthen the partnership between the federal and state governments," Gov. Parson said in a statement. "We look forward to finding solutions to better protect our nation from threats around the globe and to ensure effective response to nature disasters and emergencies at home."
According to its website, the Council of Governors "is intended to serve as a mechanism for governors and key federal officials to address matters pertaining to the National Guard, homeland defense and defense support to civil authorities."
The Council was first created in 2008 and established in 2010.
"The Council plays an important role in providing bipartisan advice from the states to the White House on these vital matters, including how we most effectively can utilize the National Guard around the globe and across the nation," Gov. Parson said.

The President appointed the 10 governors to a two-year term.
Gov. Parson's two predecessors, Eric Greitens and Jay Nixon both served on the Council.
